We are so grateful for all of the amazing rescuers who helped come to the aid of folks who needed them and wish them the best as they return to their homes. We also know they’ll be there for our state if needed again. #wawx

Still, we're very fortunate that power was restored this morning! Thanks to all of the line workers out there working hard to make that happen. Much appreciation as they keep working around the clock to help us and others get their power back.

Do not drive over downed power lines. Do not attempt to move a downed power line or anything else in contact with it by using an object such as a broom or stick. Even non-conductive materials like wood or cloth, can conduct electricity if even slightly wet. #wawx

There’s power outages across the state and downed power lines all over. If you see a downed power line, move away from it and anything touching it. Keep 35 feet away. You can’t tell if a power line is energized by looking at it. Call 911 if there’s danger. Call your utility to just report the line.

Our director Robert Ezelle talking this afternoon. We’re looking at a drier Dec. 13, but it’s still a dangerous situation. Water levels are still high and there’s more rain on the way next week. As of this afternoon, there have been NO deaths reported. We really hope this remains the case. #wawx

The @wanationalguard.bsky.social is activated, where they are doing rescue missions, helping fill sandbags, helping close roads and protect property. So if you see soldiers and helicopters in your community, that's what's happening. #wawx

People think because their vehicle is heavy, it will do just fine. That simply isn't the case. When approaching a flooded roadway remember, Turn Around Don’t Drown! #wawx
December 9, 2025 at 9:09 PM
People often underestimate the power of flowing water. A mere 6 inches of fast-moving flood water can knock an adult off their feet. Most vehicles begin to lose contact with the road in six inches of water. They can be swept away in 12-18 inches of flowing water. This includes pickups & SUVs #wawx
December 9, 2025 at 9:09 PM
There's lots of water over roads right now and some cities and counties may not be able to get road closed signs up fast enough. If you see a road closed sign, don't go around it. A flooded road may have hidden dangers such as washed out roadbeds or underwater obstructions. #wawx

Happy (almost) Thanksgiving!

When you’re with family, it’s a great chance to talk about what you would do in a disaster, where you would meet, set out-of-area contacts.

We’re seeing the potential for coastal flooding today and Thursday due to what’s commonly called “King Tides” in combination with storm events. If you see a flooded road, don’t risk your it vehicle. Try a different route.

Don’t make an emergency worse for our busy first responders. #wawx
