NEW | Solar and wind OUTPACED global electricity demand growth in the first half of 2025, leading to a fall in fossil fuels compared to this time last year ☀️🌪️

Record solar and steady wind growth is reshaping global power as renewables OVERTAKE coal for the first time.

MILESTONE | In October 2025, renewables generated more electricity than fossil fuels in #Australia for the first time on record⚡

Share of fossil fuels fell to LESS THAN HALF of 🇦🇺's power generation as renewables took the lead.

Electrotech is making its way around the world, as China’s clean technology exports hit a RECORD $20bn in August ⚡

This new high was due to rapid growth in:
🚗 EVs
🔋 Batteries

And over HALF of this growth occurred in countries outside of the OECD #COP30

NEW data | Less than 50% of Australia's electricity generation came from fossil fuels in October 🇦🇺⚡️

This was the first month ever where renewables have overtaken fossil fuels in Australia's electricity mix.

10 years ago, in October 2015, fossil fuels made up 86%.

As the global #energytransition picks up pace, falling coal demand and prices are squeezing Indonesia’s coal profits and state revenues.

Targeted actions can cut coal mine methane emissions and manage coal-dependent regions in Indonesia through this shift.

As the EU electrifies more end-use sectors, fossil demand will fall 3x faster than the rise in electricity use – cutting dependence on fossil imports.

Switching from fossil to electricity across energy end-uses boosts efficiency while decarbonising.

#China is forecasted to install 66% of the world’s solar capacity and 69% of wind capacity in 2025.

This would be the third consecutive year that 🇨🇳 added more solar and wind than the rest of the world.

Electrification could now reach 75% of all energy demand, as the road-transport and heating sectors rapidly electrify 🔥🚗

These two sectors account for 50% of global energy use and are now ready to switch from fossil molecules to clean electrons.

Solar capacity additions are forecast to exceed the #3xRenewables goal by 2030 – but wind and hydro are falling behind.

Wind: 739 GW short
Hydro: 176 GW short

Even as capacity surges, national targets still lag across all three technologies.

Indonesia’s coal production is outpacing reported coal mine methane (#CMM) emissions – a sign of underreporting due to outdated estimation methods.

In 2024, CMM emissions reached 722 kilotonnes, more than four times the official estimate of 168 kt CH4.

National targets are only on track to double renewable capacity by 2030, despite the COP28 pledge to TRIPLE renewables.

Aggregate renewable capacity targets have increased slightly by 8%, but more needs to be done to fulfil #3xRenewables.

80% of people live in fossil-importing countries.

#COP30 can help change that with electrotech:
✅ 92% of countries have renewables potential 10x their demand
✅ EVs + heat pumps + renewables can cut fossil imports by 70%
✅ That’s $1.3 trillion saved annually

Electrotech delivers for decades once installed, providing long-term energy security.

Fossil fuels require a constant supply, making them vulnerable to price and supply shocks.

NEW | Renewable capacity additions grew 29% annually since 2023 – outpacing the 21% growth needed to triple global renewables by 2030

With just 12% annual growth from now to 2030, backed by more ambitious national targets, #3xRenewables is still possible

NEW | Indonesia’s estimated coal mine methane emissions reached 722 kilotonnes in 2024, driven by record coal production.

This could surge 25% by 2030 as new underground mines expand, even as coal production falls amid declining global demand and prices.

China has been rapidly manufacturing electrotech at scale, which is driving down costs💰📉

For the past 15 years, China produced over 75% of the world’s solar PV modules, making it increasingly cost competitive against fossil fuels.

The EU paid €1.8 trillion for fossil imports during the gas crisis, double the pre-crisis level.

This reliance on fossil imports has proven costly, but electrification using homegrown clean power de-risks the EU from volatile oil and gas imports 🔏

Ember’s modelling shows that adding solar and batteries beyond Thailand’s RPDP targets by 2037 can reduce new gas and still meet rising demand.

The model also adds 10 TWh of data centre demand and 3.3 GW of EV peak load by 2037 – above RPDP projections.
