It seems that the scientific data is neutral between physicalism and panpsychism, but under dualism you would expect the mental substance/properties to cause unexplainable events in the brain. Also its hard to explain why certain chemicals or injuring the brain effect the mind on a very deep level.

And he says that Elves don't really have gender roles, like there is usually no difference between the skills and professions females and males have, and even in the area where there is difference (males usually fight in wars and females are usually healers), these differences are not absolute.

Also, in many of his works and in his letters, he places individual freedom above rigid traditions and social control. And in one letter he says that it is a mistake to idealize the primitive church because the church has improved over time and it needs to adapt to present conditions.

I'm not sure Tolkien can be fully characterized as conservative. For example, in the Hobbit he seems to be advocating for people not to accept the narrow roles and limits imposed by tradition and society. Also, he is against some things which many conservatives support like war and imperialism.

Also Karen's Armstrong's books include some very good histories of religions and analysies of how they differ, including The Great Transformation and A History of God.

There's a new edition (Religions of the World) and I read it and it's really good. I would also recommend The Masks of God by Joseph Campbell which covers their history more, and is broader in which religions it covers, since it doesn't limit itself to presently existing ones and is more detailed.

I mentioned the idea of a limited God because that was one of three theories Philip Goff proposed. He does not believe an omniscient, omnipotent, and omnibenevolent God is consistent with the existence of evil, so I don't think he would arguence for the traditional non-limited God.

Why did you focus mostly on the religions of the West? It seems that most of your proposals in Why: The Purpose of the Universe, like the universe being conscious or teleological laws, match better with eastern religions. Are you that much more convinced that a limited God is the better option?

By the way the BlueSky character limit is so annoying.

There are strands in many religions that are like this, since the mystical traditions are more compatible with liberal values and insist less on the parts of religions that conflict the most with modern science and philosophy because they often interpret scriptures metaphorically and psychologically

I think Buddhism is a very strong candidate for this.

The image shows a person wearing a red sweater with a festive design. It features an image of Karl Marx and the text reads: "ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS IS THE MEANS OF PRODUCTION." The person is standing in a room with a colorful rug, a clock on the wall, and items on shelves in the background.
