Sudan has also entered a particularly violent phase since RSF's takeover last month of el-Fasher in Darfur. There's another element to the story: the displaced and those who have fled to neighbouring countries (cont. in comments)

Been up here a few times! One of our regular circuits as we live just 45 mins away. Only 400+ bloody steps up to the top. Will probably be familiar to fans of the Harry Potter movies.

After the best part of a week cooped up with man flu, ventured out on the usual 4-mile circuit. Cold, but a beautiful sunny morning here. #writingcommunity #booksky #horsforth #leeds

#4: NAACP festive charity seals (from 1959, marking the 50th anniversary of the organisation). I've got enough of these in the archives to keep going until Christmas!

For those curious about Francesca Albanese's knack of rattling the cages of pro-Israel governments (and complicit corporate entities like Microsoft and Amazon), her "Gaza Genocide: A Collective Crime" report is worth a read.

Over 100 requests for aid entry into Gaza refused since the so-called ceasefire started a month ago. Israel still pushing the 'dual use' card to deny entry of items inc. mobile toilets (essential to optimise WASH), X ray machines, and parts to maintain desalination units. Business as usual.

Took this Chomsky and Pappé book to kill time on a 4-hour flight. Two guys with slightly (though not entirely) different perspectives. Written 10 years ago but holding relevance. Explores settler colonisation mentality and the well exposed complicity of the UK, US and other colonising nations.

So happens I have a ton of old NAACP "Christmas seal" stamps. I'm pretty sure most of mine span from the 1940s to the 1960s, and they come in various shapes and sizes. Since it's the festive season soon I'll post a few up over the coming weeks.

From one of our road trips. Seasonally appropriate Savannah. I was on my way to interview a couple of soul singers / musicians for one of my books, but just had to stop by here for a few days.

The Gaza Water Supply Project to assess started week to assess the full damage to water related infrastructure, and to draw up a stepwise plan. An EU-funded joint effort between UNICEF, the Palestinian Water Authority and the Coastal Municipalities Management Water Utility. Will report back.

Some positive news today. WASH systems are progressively being established in Gaza, despite border access limits. Primary prevention and malnutrition treatment programmes are underway. 4,300 pregnant /breastfeeding women started nutrition support this month

Rousseau trying to wedge his way onto today’s National Black Cat Day FB page. Technically he doesn’t quite qualify (being a tuxedo) but plays the part well…

I pulled this one together last week for Cultura, in case anyone missed it / of interest. On one lady’s NAACP activism, and the darker moments of her childhood hometown’s history.

A management business card for Screamin' Jay Hawkins. I picked it up from a dealer who initially acquired it from Neil Carter, Twisted Wheel DJ. Hawkins was one of the touring R&B acts to appear at the Wheel around that time (mid-late 1960s). #screaminjayhawkins

The World Food Programme is now delivering 750 tons of aid into Gaza daily, but that's still way below their target of 2K per day. The WFP is also failing to effectively reach the most vulnerable. The limiting factor is crossing closures, making access to the north particularly problematic.

Morning all from the ‘other’ office in rainy Leeds! As the weather turns, nice to know this will be the first year that the library staff don’t need to offer us blankets (was a thing until the central heating was sorted out). Still got my eye on that old Imperial btw.

Freddie North, from Nashville’s vibrant R&B scene died this week, aged 86. Freddie was renowned for avoiding discussions about his commercial recording career. I tried to interview him at one point—with limited success—though I think Tony Rounce did a better job for the Kent CD. #soul #nashville
