Amazing ice formations on the ground a week ago here in Central Italy. Possibly due to high humidity near the ground combined with high pressure (warmer during the day and then suddenly falling down a lot during night)

Testing and comparing a new amazing lens called k42 by Kuangren Macro. It’s actually a “pack of lenses” for both macro, micro and wide angle macro photography all in one. #newlenses #macrophotography #kuangren

Eublaberus marajoara, a beautiful rainforest cockroach with an interesting mask-like pattern on its pronotum. I encountered this enigmatic roach in the Ecuadorian Amazon almost 10 years ago, but it is now well-known within the roach keeping community as ink splotch roach.

Hot off the press! An article I wrote for Smithsonian on how the LA fires have impacted wildlife. I believe its the deepest dive into the LA fires' effects on fauna so far & not just because we talk diving fish & newts! Deeply grateful to all the experts who spoke with me & Joe's excellent editing🌎

This is more than just a cool bug!
Sphaenognathus is a genus of stag beetles (photo shows a female) that has a Gondwanan origin. Most of the species are found along the western side of the South American continent but a few species occur in Australia, beautifully demonstrating their shared origin!

Check this amazing wide angle closeup of a orchid bee by Gil Wizen and run following him (but I’m sure you already do)
Male orchid bee (Euglossa sp.) collecting fragrant compounds from a moss patch in the Ecuadorian Amazon. This is one of my favorite subjects to photograph, and I keep going back to it even though I probably have hundreds of photos by now. I mean, look how awesome these bees are!

Parasites and parasitoids are soooooo interesting isn’t it?
Ghost Spider (Anyphaena sp.) and the Small-headed Fly (Acrocera sp.) that emerged from it.

In the second photo you can see it beginning to split open the spider’s abdomen.

I just found this “Captions” app which is seemingly solving all my translation of subtitles and captions issues. Not bad AI, not bad… #captions #videomaking

The rainy season in @gorongosapark.bsky.social brings out an abundance of insects, making all insectivores and entomophiles very happy. The light of my cabin attracts a large number of cicadas, turning my porch into a free buffet for bushbabies and genets.

"Super soldier" Pheidole ants pressing heads at the entrance to the nest. Worker ants come in two types: minor workers for foraging, and big-headed soldiers for colony defense. I wanted to emphasize the size difference between workers of the same colony, which are all sisters.
