Grateful to join RES Career Day! I worked w/2nd & 3rd graders as they viewed redesigning a courtyard through an educator’s lens - what supports learning, what’s nice to have, and what doesn’t. Their creativity and collaboration were the best reminder of why we do this work!

I had the opportunity to wear the walkie again for a little bit today! Some 7th grade girls let me try to play jump rope at recess. I was not successful. 😂

Tonight, I had the honor of being one of the speakers at Kickin’ it Up for the Kids, the annual fundraiser for Grace’s Closet. They do tremendous work providing students in need with food, clothes, shoes, hygiene products, and prom dresses in the district.

Saw two former 9th graders tonight, now grown men. I may forget names, but never faces, the energy they brought, or the kindness they showed. When they remember me, my heart smiles. Maybe those days mattered. #MissingTheClassroom

Ended the week spending time with induction and new teachers in the district. Couldn’t have asked for a better ending to the week!

Still thinking about PLC Institute last week. It’s always a nice time when you’re in community with great educators learning how to support ALL students!

What a way to the end the week! This year the district is partnering with Call Me Mister to support our third graders reading camp. This group serves as a reminder that the future of education is bright. Today, we showed them a little bit of what makes Oconee special!

The girls handed out programs tonight at the SDOC High Honor Banquet. One of the cool parts about my job is that my kids get to see all sides of education, get inspired by the “big kids” and have opportunities to interact and engage with folks. They took their job seriously and made me proud!

It’s the impromptu moments, when you can plop down and join a class sitting on the floor in the hallway and read a book, that keep me centered and grounded in my “why” and fill my bucket. I sure do miss being called Mrs. McDonals…emphasis on the /s/ and no /d/!

Best part going to Boston outside of #NCSS2024 was traveling to Plymouth! I felt like I could breathe the history in the air.

I had so much fun presenting at #NCSS2024! My heart is so full hearing the hearts of social studies educators and their passion for social studies! I was in the room with amazing folks who leaned into learning with me and shared their experiences and expertise!
