I was returning home yesterday afternoon and was greeted to much waving and bowing. It’s the local elections here in Daejeon, and perhaps Korea. Quite unique and unlike anything I’ve seen in the U.K.

I had a wonderful time in Japan with my parents a month or so ago. I’ll be sharing a video of my travels soon but a word of caution … it’s a long video. Potentially my longest video that I’ve edited so far for YouTube.

In two months, KOTESOL will be holding their largest event of the year - the International Conference. Make sure you save the date and see you there if you can make it!

Last night, I went out for a Japanese style meal with my good wife. It was flaming delicious.

This afternoon, I got my students to work on a weekly project to plan a trip to the U.K., and each afternoon we look at a particular country of the U.K.. I’m looking forward to seeing their pamphlet next week.

At the beginning of 2024, one my aims was for my YouTube Channel to get to 20,000 subscribers by the end of the year. It was tough but doable and I eventually achieved it with a few days to spare.

If you haven’t subscribed, then feel free to do so: www.youtube.com/eltexperiences.

I grew up Danny Boyle's "28 Days Later" and loved it. I can't wait for his latest instalment of "28 Years Later" and watching the trailer, I wonder if Cillian Murphy is the person hanging upside down as it has the protagonist's name (Jim(my)) from "28 Days Later".

I had a great weekend attending the local KOTESOL Thanksgiving Symposium. So many great speakers and attendees, and very well organised. The whole event was related to reflection. #KoreaTESOL #ELT #CPD

The first sign of Christmas has arrived this morning in South Korea, with a light dusting of snow this morning. I certainly had to wrap up as I left home this morning as it felt incredibly cold.

Now I don’t feel so displeased when hearing the festive songs being played. Bring it on Mariah Carey!

The Christmas decorations are obviously now on display at work. Nice to see the winter months among us and trying to stay warm.

My good wife and I spotted a Korean hanbok (traditional attire) being sold in one store and it was for a baby or toddler. It looked so cute.

I spotted a special British pub in Seoul yesterday during my evening strolls. The proprietor has penned his greatest for the name of the establishment! Behold, “Shakesbeer”! 😂

I was slightly pessimistic about joining a new social media platform, particularly one to replace X, formerly Twitter. I’m happy to have my first 100 followers now though and I appreciate @bsky.app for making it so welcoming.

I’m now in a small cafe having online meetings with students.

Why reinvent the wheel when some resources are great at inspiring how language is used? Use real resources to help your online language learners rather than prompting AI for examples from less inspiring LLMs. These are my go-to books for my online lessons and when I need some inspiration.

This summer, I gave a presentation about the benefits of YouTube for language teachers for members of KOTESOL in Seoul. It was great to share my personal experiences as well as tips for budding YouTube educators.
