Retired as Head Teacher of Ambridge Village School in 1967. Keen ornithologist, still alive, and listening avidly to BBC The Archers.
Seeing it in our local cinema tomorrow! Will look out for ‘Brad’

Agree, it was unsettling re. Neil!

Sigh… initially, he was trying to do a good thing, driving her home to safety having found her comatose with booze. Alice has never acknowledged her part in the accident but it’s time for everyone in Ambridge to move on.

No, he wasn’t.

Alice caused the accident. George rescued people from the river. It’s a subtly written, nuanced SL that can’t be judged simply.#TheArchers

How many ‘victims’ does George have? I’d suggest only one, Alice, and she confronted him before the trial with her statement and he apologised. #TheArchers

I'm not sure that Ambridge works like any RL rural villages! That's part of the appeal. #TheArchers

An incomer who’s been there since 1986? I’d say she’s earned the right to be regarded as the treasure of the village by now! Love her! #TheArchers

But Alice wouldn’t have been charged with perverting the course of justice; she’d have been charged causing an accident while drink driving. #TheArchers

But would Alice have received the same sentence, I wonder? A semi-posh alcoholic with a dependent child might have been treated more leniently than a young working class lad like George. #TheArchers

This won’t help, but I’m on George’s side; he’s a young lad with issues who’s made mistakes, just as many of us have in life, but has plenty of potential for good. #TheArchers

I thought the actor’s performance was awful, sorry, he mangled the script. I’ve no idea what class he was trying to play or whether that was his real accent. #TheArchers

The prison Chaplain sounded like a thug! Was he supposed to be a ‘born again’ psychopath or was he an imposter? Rather spoilt the message for me! #TheArchers
July 15, 2025 at 9:45 PM
None of which would have occurred if Alice hadn’t got drunk in her car and caused the accident by distracting George when he was kindly driving her home. #TheArchers

A fascinating theory! 😀

He did more damage to himself than he did to anyone else, there’s the irony! It was like Crime and Punishment minus the actual axe murders! #TheArchers

Rather difficult to define 'truth' in a complex moral situation such as this one. Amber's anger against Neil is, perhaps, a mark of her loyalty and strong feelings for George. #TheArchers

We’ve also seen his good side, his attitude towards younger members of his family etc. and when he moved Alice, he hadn’t really thought the consequences through. Pat Archer has seen his potential for good, hence her character reference.
July 14, 2025 at 5:58 PM
Alice’s self pitying victim statement was nauseating, no admission of her own responsibility! #TheArchers
July 14, 2025 at 1:14 PM
They never even thought about it!
July 14, 2025 at 12:33 PM
And that is an offence in law, drunk in charge of her vehicle. Keys in the glove compartment not a good defence if the police wanted to prosecute. #TheArchers
July 14, 2025 at 12:22 PM
And there are middle class kids who deliberately put on working class accents in order to appear streetwise! That teenage time of adopting allegedly cool personas! Who is the real Amber? Will Clarrie find her? #TheArchers

I suspect (and hope!) that’s she’s immature but redeemable, to an extent, at least. Part of George’s learning curve, perhaps, as he grows up too. #TheArchers

She was rather rude, snobby and bossy when she first arrived, as I remember. Her nuanced development has taken decades but it’s been a delight. #TheArchers
