Hello from Los Angeles 🌞 where I'm giving a talk about SAND RUSH to Marlborough highschool students.

Bumped into this poster which seemed apt.

Dear @tpexpress.bsky.social, I get that you needed to update the website but why is it SO hard to amend tickets for the same journey now?? I need to re-book and ask for a refund now. It used to be SO easy. It's such a faff that I gave up instead of spending lots of money on a ticket change.

👩 Meet Linda Maraniss
⭐ In 1986, she visited Padre Island National Seashore, in Texas.
🏖️ She expected a beach.
🤢 She found a landfill.

❓Guess one of the most common things volunteers found on Texas beaches in 1986 during the first #InternationalCoastalCleanup?
It wasn't coffee cups or plastic utensils but salt fishing bags!

Learn more this Friday when we release *PART 2* of our episode on cleanups with @anjakrieger.bsky.social

This episode comes out just as @oceanconservancy.org is holding the 40th #InternationalCoastalCleanup in a little more than a week 🙌
Find out about how Judie Neilson, the godmother of the citizen science cleanup movement, moved heaven and earth to bring the spotlight on ocean plastic pollution 🥤🏖️

Who's this little man?
That's the scuba diver toy that Judie Neilson found over 40 years ago during the first citizen science cleanup.
In this Plastisphere episode, @anjakrieger.bsky.social & I tell the story one of the early heroines of plastic pollution!

There was actually an alternative polar bear swim slightly earlier that day (because of the CRR meeting scheduled at the same time as the swim) and it was so much FUN!! @emilie-pasquier.bsky.social
Thank you for finding the perfect spot for a swim in Uppsala Marianna :-)

So proud of the french ECR and PhD contingent at #eseh2015. They gave amazing papers + brought tons of energy & enthusiasm to the conference.
Huge congrats to Etienne Dufour for the best dissertation prize for his phd on the disruption of biogeochemical cycles in Paris & the end of recycling

4. Stockholm - Uppsala 🚄

Made it in one piece 🧩 woohoo!

Good omen to have found a bike sculpture on way to the hotel.

Don't know who this lil' dancing couple is but found them v endearing.

See you all at #eseh2025 !

3. Hamburg - Stockholm 🚄

A Swedish-American lady told me on the platform that this train was notorious for being late and it didn't disappoint. We are two hours late but the company is lovely and the landscapes of pine forests and deep blue lakes very cheering after a short night.

Almost there 🤞🏻
August 18, 2025 at 8:16 AM
I clearly got very lucky because both my trains were on time!

Which means getting to spend a bit of time in Hamburg. There are worse spots to wait for your night train to #ESEH2025...

2. Karlsruhe-Hamburg 🚄

So far so good in terms of delays 🤞🏻 but only some of the train's doors opened so had to enter through a carriage other than my own.

ACDC fans had descended upon Karlsruhe even city buses were on it!

Would love to see in my lifetime as many bikes outside of a UK station

There are four women at the center of this article. I'm so excited to introduce these wonderful women and their stories to the world.
This is Judie for whom I have so much admiration ☺️
