Just a sample. In which William Carlos Williams goes on to crush T.S. Eliot and Ezra Pound after advising Yvan Goll that ad hominem is no way to do criticism. 😂

You don't say. 😂

Now just make sure to represent the other side of the debate. We wouldn't want to be too partial.

Join @araujohistorian.bsky.social and I, and the rest of the #slaveryarchive book club, 10 days from now, Oct. 25, for a conversation with Atlantic historian Toby Green, to discuss his new book The Heretic of Cacheu.

Another question: what would it look like to write the unsummarizable book which would still read coherently? Faced with such, AI might have to simply list themes, but would be unable to sinthesize it, no? Right?!

3 ways to get the broken times:

1. Only see trees, never the forest
2. Pretend you don't know how anything works
3. The NYT stopped telling us what was really happening. Some see neutrality.

"Whatever it is..."

From the article on the top story of today's NYT. Evidence #2567 that the NYT has an auto-immune disease.

Then I started thinking about more calculus type stuff for accelaration and stuff. I asked an LLM. After praising me for being A Genius™, it gave me some interesting leads, including a python script and this pretty thing:

Another reason why the Democrats' notion that progressive taxation is just a source of government revenue—and not the equalizing and creative force it can be—was an epochal failure. If the point was to raise revenue, the GOP will now point to this nonsense. And the rich get richer...

I like how in 1916, everyone already knew that Russia was pirate library central. 😂

Wait... how TF am I still receiving emails at ag7w@virginia.edu?!

It's been almost 15 years.

Caribbean DH Summer Institute in full effect in Kingston. A bit sad that it coincided with #ach2025, but hey. We're having a wonderful week learning new things and strengthening communy. Here's a pic with part of the crew below UWI's ant tree—ones not out there looking for mangoes or a hammock.

So happy for Tamara Lanier. After years fighting Harvard she has won. We were blessed to have her in our last keynote dialogue for Who Owns Black Data talking precisely about that protracted fight. See? Archival reparations are possible.

Was at the hunger strike for Gaza yesterday with some colleagues. Several of us have rotated to make sure we bear witness and support. I got to see their die-in action. Was moved to the core. Students can be powerful moral guides—why still at my age, half the work goes towards justice and peace.

4 days to gather in New Haven to ask a second time, Who Owns Black Data? This year's theme is "The Past in Danger." Carla Hayden, the most qualified person to ever hold the position of chief librarian was just fired yesterday. We don't think we exaggerate when we say the past is in danger. #wobd2025

Now more than ever, we need to chat about who owns our data. This goes for everyone. In a few weeks we'll be gathering at Yale to talk about Who Owns Black Data specifically, who owns historical data, who controls the material past. Open to the public!
