A new study by AlgorithmWatch and Al Forensics shows that using Large Language Models like Bing Chat as a source of information for deciding how to vote is a very bad idea. As their answers to important questions are partly completely wrong and partly misleading, the likes of ChatGPT can be dangerous to the formation of public opinion in a democracy. Karsten Donnay is Assistant Professor of Political Behavior and Digital Media at the University of Zurich and provided academic advice to our research. He says of the findings: "This research project has not only brought to light an obvious problem with Bing Chat but revealed the more fundamental problem of an overly uncritical use of Al. Currently, companies are launching simply unreliable products. They do so without having to fear legal repercussions."
