The "Green Bullet" microphone recently caught my attention. While trying to figure out how it worked, the physics behind it, I landed on this web page. But note the WordPress account hosting it. sensorsandtransducers.wordpress.com/2012/02/11/t...
The Moving Iron (Variable Reluctance) Microphone
This type of microphone uses a powerful magnet that contains a soft-iron armature in its magnetic circuit, with the armature attached to a diaphragm. The principle is illustrated in Figure

Balanced by dispersion
Oh, solitary splendor."

That someone thought messages might "reflect hatred toward Trump and can be described as terrorism" hints strongly at a very poor quality of education, perhaps a low reading skill.

Excellent post on the magnitude of the the Hunga Tonga-hunga volcanic eruption.
On Jan 15, 2022, the violent volcanic eruption at Hunga Tonga–Hunga Ha‘apai generated an intense pressure
wave registered by instruments all over the world. That morning I noticed dozens of social-media posts with location and pressure data, which I realized could be used to study the wave 🧪⚛️ [1/n]

I very much agree.
We are facing a moment when much will change for the worse, not just in policy, but in the structure of politics itself. We need to be imagining a better America.

One of my favorite birds, pica pica, the European magpie.
Not the best light for photography, but a tree full of noisy Magpies at the end of the garden. Counted at least twelve. Presumably upset by an unseen predator in another tree. #birds

Last night we attended a concert at the Cumhuriyet Sinfoni Orkestra. On program was Tchaikovsky's Piano concerto No.1. Only, the Steinway, though looking new, seemed not up to the task, sounding rather bright instead of resonant. Any ideas what could've been the problem, perhaps not being "voiced"?

I wholly agree with Zeynep Tufekçi that it would be a "grave mistake" to approve Kennedy's nomination to lead the US Department of Human Services. Furthermore, I think the knock-on effects could leave world health cooperation even more shaky than it is now.
