Managing Editor at Renaissance Quarterly. Errant medievalist. Enjoyer of old songs, strange tales, crafty arts, nerdy pastimes. They/them.
The new issue of Renaissance Quarterly is *fantastic* & in it you'll find:
- Disabled artistic expression of Hendrick Goltzius (whose hand self-portrait is the cover of this issue)
- *Incredible* drama between 16th-century shipbuilders
- Visual poetry about Thomas Becket
- VOLCANOES!

Go read it!

RQ 77.4!! 🎉🥳

Read about brazen, desirous, grim lady knights; women in early humanist circles; Indigenous authority in the 16th-century Andes; the rhetoric of precarity in early modern politics; & the story of a disabled Roman woman who self-advocated to write her own will.

I stopped by the @uchicagopress.bsky.social table at #RSA2025 and they have a whole wonderful exhibit featuring Renaissance Quarterly! I got the last RQ umbrella swag, but there are still bookmarks - and of course, many books and other journals (we're in very good company!) 😍

RQ 77.3 is out today! Brilliant work:
Daniel Savoy on sewers & souls; Brian Cummings on "Gay Erasmus"; Crystal Hall on Galileo & digitized poetry; Anne Larsen on Van Schurman, self-portraits, & scholarly identity; and Carlotta Moro on Marinella's female mysticism.

On the walking trail near my house, someone left a lot of little ceramic creatures to greet you in various semi-hidden spots. I took these pictures this fall; some of them have since been washed away by the tides and weather, but they will live forever in my heart.
