But my point for optimism: in the span of a little more than a decade, the US went from FDR to the tyranny of McCarthy to the power of the civil rights movement. I hope it’s possible for my country to come back from tyranny again, but better, stronger, and more equal, under law. I’ll fight for that.

Also, the majority of US voters (“the people” of “We the people”) voted for a fascist party that did all but say explicitly that they wanted to destroy the republic. So, that’s what we’re all getting.
