A pair of socks I knitted up for my granny 🌟 she's the queen of knitting and ended up showing them off to the rest of the family and all her W.I friends 💁‍♂️ she also refuses to wear them because they're "too lovely"

I'm getting ready to knit a collar and the pattern is knitted with 3 different size needles with 3 different gauges. I've never done gauge swatches and I'm nervous - any tips? Can I reuse the yarn from my gauge swatches? When gauging in the round, do I need to cut the floats at the back? Please help
