I did see a post go by saying that the senators are at least aware of the issue.

My take: I really wish the left & right agreed on the basic purpose of Federal gov't. I think Elon means well but is out of his league, and he has confused being rich with being smart. The Federal budget needed cutting, but DOGE is not the way to do it. The end does not justify the means.

@hcrichardson.bsky.social will have to make sense of it all tomorrow. x.com/i/spaces/1gq... has the recording.

Sounds like they're wrapping up anyways, it's 1am ET. Saying goodbye. Vivek made a comment about heading in the direction of a governorship. As far as I could see there was a peak of 91k listeners. Light on details.
February 3, 2025 at 6:03 AM
Sorry folks, I have to wake up early and this is starting to be a lot of platitudes and made up stuff, so I'm going to call it quits on the reporting for the night. I was hoping for more details on #DOGE operations but they don't seem to be forthcoming.

Elon: If we can cut the Federal deficit in half, we can eliminate inflation.

Vivek says spending in FY24 was 7 trillion, FY19 was 2.5 trillion (?)
February 3, 2025 at 5:55 AM
Elon wants easier building permits in California, and deregulation in general.

Elon says "metric we're tracking is in detail, here's the delta in spending between FY25 and FY26".

Elon thinks he can cut 1 trillion from the deficit next year.

Vivek "Federalism is the answer - push it all to the states."

Mike Lee "When the Federal government does what it's supposed to do, that's what we got to get back to. It's going to be a relief to the American people."
February 3, 2025 at 5:50 AM
Joni Ernst talking about it's not going to be the first 100 days of Trump's presidency, it's going to be a lot faster than that.

They're hoping to get things done quickly to convince the electorate to keep a Republican-controlled Congress in power.
February 3, 2025 at 5:47 AM
Elon saying people can choose to move to the state that offers the best lifestyle/freedom/etc., each state competing for residents.

Elon "the more I get to know President Trump, the more I like him".

Mike Lee "Thanks to Trump's first term, we have a supreme court 6-3 in favor of what we're saying"
February 3, 2025 at 5:44 AM
Elon makes analogy of US being a giant that is tied down by a myriad of Lilliputian regulations. He wants to do wholesale removal of regulations. "Wholesale spring cleaning of regulations."

Mike Lee talking about "zero-based regulations" as an analogy of "zero-based budget".
February 3, 2025 at 5:42 AM
Senator Mike Lee (no relation to myself) joins the conversation. Talking about small government, REINS act. Wants to attach the REINS act to the debt ceiling bill.

For those who are interested, I'm live-blogging the X space under a newer post of mine.

Elon claims that prices of groceries go up due to government spending too much. Good news is that if we solve government overspending, it will eliminate rising prices, and interest rates will also go down.
February 3, 2025 at 5:35 AM
Talk of $50m condoms to Gaza story, Elon suspects it wasn't really for condoms.

Sen. Ernst reiterates desire for transparency.

Elon says classified line items are a "tiny fraction of spending".
February 3, 2025 at 5:32 AM
Vivek hoping that this "virtuous" cycle of cutting will bring down interest rates on US treasury bonds.
