We need to talk about what kind of democracy this town wants to be.
Because what I saw today was not democracy.
It was a power grab.
It was silence.
It was performance politics.
And it was disgusting.

So let’s recap:
• Clavin resigned suddenly
• Ferretti was appointed without a vote
• Goosby was erased
• The public was furious
• And I watched it all happen
• It was messy, shady, and wrong

🎤 Then came public comment.
A smug little man sat there smirking while clearly disrespecting the people he now claims to represent.
And let’s not forget.
Ferretti just left the 12th NYS Legislative District without a rep until November.

This man got handed a powerful seat he didn’t earn, right in front of his kids.
Instead of setting an example about democracy and public service, he accepted a backroom appointment while people were shouting.
Cool role model, John.

🗣 The room turned into chaos.
Democrats started chanting:
“Shame!”
“We have elections, not selections!”
Republicans tried to clap louder.
Ferretti stood there getting sworn in with his wife, son, and daughter like nothing had happened.

Let me say that again.
They skipped Goosby’s vote entirely.
You can watch the video.
She doesn’t vote.
They cut her completely out of the process.
Everyone in the room noticed it.

Clavin appointed John Ferretti as his replacement.
Not Dorothy Goosby, who is the Deputy Supervisor, the only Black woman on the board, a Democrat, and a long-serving public servant.
They didn’t even let her vote.

🧍‍♂️Don Clavin just stepped down. No warning, no buildup. Just done. Like clocking out of a Walgreens shift.
The room exploded.
Democrats muttered “good riddance.”
Republicans clapped.
And then it got worse.

📝 They announced a “clerical error” on the agenda and called a 15-minute recess.
It lasted more like 20 or even 30.
Then they came back, ran through two more amendments, and then it happened.
Clavin resigned.

We went into the actual meeting around 11:00am.
And right away, everything felt off.
Suits were checking their watches constantly, like a bomb was about to go off. Tension was thick.
They were clearly waiting for something and being dismissive to the public.

🕚 I got to the meeting a little after 10:20am. I was sitting in the farthest row from the entrance. Felt slightly underdressed but whatever. I was there to hear Joe Scianablo speak. Nassau Dems had told people to arrive around 10:30.
