First stab at a new painting of my kids. I’ve been thinking about the storytelling behind my paintings. It’s always been there, but lately I feel like telling more true ones, even if it means learning how to paint people ;) #painting #art #northcarolina

Evolution of a work in progress (post 2 of 2): I painted out the leaves and lightened up the color palette. This feels more about the bendy trees. I added leaves back but made them lighter, fewer, looser. By photo 3 it feels better but idk, maybe boring? Added ducks. More composition tweaks to come.

Evolution of a work in progress (part 1 of 2). By photo 3 I could see that my leaves weren’t working and the composition wasn’t right, among other problems! This painting was supposed to be about the bendy trees. So, I made the trees a little bigger and repositioned some of them (photo 4).

This is one of my favorite little painting tricks when I’m not sure what needs to happen next! In this case I was wondering if adding a few loose leaves would be a good idea.
