Worldbuilding is so fun! My favorite part is setting up clues and weaving the plot together in my mysteries. There’s something so satisfying about hiding little details in plain sight and watching it all come together in the end.

Also, it can really help to read other memoirs, so you’ll get a sense of how people shape their experiences into a story and find your own style in the process.

You might start by deciding if you want to write it for yourself or for others to read; as a memoir or fiction, and if you’d want to self-publish or go the traditional route. Maybe take a writing class (memoir or not). Check your public library, they often have free classes/provide local resources.

My first two: The white sand beaches and quaint colonial revival homes of Claire Fontaine's hometown were only thirty miles away. Yet, the coastal town and year-round sunshine felt out of reach, thanks to the overzealous action of a misguided US Customs and Border Protection agent.
