I wanted to spread some peace before we end work today #RAdminSky. This was written by the president of my former institution and I share his beliefs too.
What I Believe When I drift too close to national politics in this newsletter, I am occasionally criticized for revealing my biases. So let me stay out of politics and just state what I believe, what I have always believed: • I believe that every one of us is a Child of God, uniquely valued in His eyes. • I believe that “all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” • I believe that everyone deserves my utmost respect and consideration on their journey through life. • I believe this country has the capacity and opportunity to continue to say to the world, “Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, the wretched refuse of your teaming shore, send these the homeless, tempest-tossed, to me.” • I believe that every one of us has a personal obligation to take care of our bodies and minds, while also recognizing that our social environments and genetic roots can impact the trajectory of our lives and health. • I believe that education is the great liberator, the great equalizer, and should be available to everyone who wishes to pursue it. • I believe that basic health care for all should be a national and global goal of every country and healthcare organization on this earth. • I believe it is critical to preserve God’s nature and the environment where I learn resiliency and the miracle of growth and rebirth. • I believe Abraham Lincoln was right when he said “America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves.” There you have it. I don’t consider these beliefs as political, either progressive or conservative, but as foundational to our lives, to our peace, and to our coexistence on this earth. Sincerely, Richard H.
