My friend and neighbor Doug is passing away at 83 today. He was a deeply peaceful and poetic soul who loved his dog Sarah. He cherished his Mojave home and greeted the sunrise with joy. It was a blessing and an honor to befriend him in his last year of life and to be there for him til the end.

Good news! The new Desert Times curated and published by Riah Buchanan is out and available at Hi Desert Times. I’m lucky to be included alongside other desert creators. I’m glad to commemorate my friend Agne through creativity, I think that’s how she would want to be remembered.

Exploring near Sedona with my friend Jack. We former rangers may know something about seasonality. Roles in life come and go, dreams dissolve to the tune of others’ budgets, nothing stays fixed forever. It’s good to share the beautiful moments with friends, whether for a short time or a long time.

Trips like these help me cherish the moments and let them go too. A great way to commemorate fall. Perhaps someday we’ll revisit, alive or as ghosts, sewn like light into the walls.

How lucky we are to be travelers, strangers in communion with time and the spirits of the past! We woke with the hummingbirds and herons at Burro Creek, connected with conifers outside Prescott, sipped old fashions at the oldest saloon in the state, and gathered with the ghosts at a haunted hotel!

Sometimes I fear I’ll never know who I really am or could be because I’ve spent so much life living up to who I’m expected to be.

Yesterday morning my 82 year old veteran neighbor reached for my hand from his hospital bed, and in the afternoon a kindergartner reached for my hand because she was scared to talk in front of the class. In the beginning, in the end, we all need someone to be there for us, someone to hold our hand.

It’s National Indigo Day! 2 years ago today, this silly baby came to make the world a more joyful place. Let’s join millions around the globe in celebrating this incredible dog!

We are America too! Trans, 2spirit, nonbinary, intersex, gender diverse people have helped shape this country before it was a country. Love us or hate us, we are its history too.

Faces of Tumanguya/Mt. Whitney. When there’s turmoil in my head and heart, I can draw peace and strength from the mountains and their valleys.

I was very lucky to interview the great Sarah McLachlan for Bust! With so much animosity in the world, it was a true honor to talk to someone dedicated to uplifting women and helping pioneer a gentler way forward.

Check out her new album ‘Better Broken’! bust.com/title-findin...

Holding her extra tight lately. I often feel I belong nowhere at all.

We trans people are always the scapegoat. We are a projection of your fears and fantasies. I am unarmed and wish harm to no one. Take care out there.

Prophetic selfie from 2020.

Good morning from the Sierra - yesterday’s sunrise on Tumanguya (Mt. Whitney). A quick getaway with Indigo.

Camped in Lone Pine and witnessed Whitney Portal, new to us and one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever seen!

We’re lucky and privileged to do these kind of things. It brings me joy.

Only mountains, canyons, rivers, oceans know the flow of time. Only they can know the common ancestry we share beneath this sky. These mountains gestated under the feet of dinosaurs. Only they can keep the record of how we live, and why.

Started a second job at an after-school program — it’s great! It lifts me up to help youngsters learn and to encourage creativity. One said I was her favorite teacher! I’m grateful to brighten the kids’ days. With all the stress and discord adults bring into the world, it’s nice to help the kids.
