Testing was seriously cut around the province but a few sites remain. Some numbers are better than no numbers ...

I'm sorry for the situation in most places that have cut or eliminated surveillance. We need data to make informed decisions.

Excellent! I hope she (and you) continue to do well.

Viruses respect no borders.

I hope you feel better soon.

Yes! If you live, work or go to school in Ontario you can get a free Covid and flu shot. Most pharmacies accept walk-ins or save time and book online. You can get the shots separately or at the same time, whatever suits you.

Oddly enough, the colouring was strongly considered. The graph palette was designed with Colouring for Colourblindness. But the purple and orange (or however you describe those colours) are tricky.

It certainly is.

It's not about "believing in vaccines". Covid vax are not sterilising. They do not reliably prevent Covid. They lessen the severity of the acute illness. But their protection wanes. Not everyone can access the vaccine either.

With this in mind, I "believe" in masks; a physical barrier to the virus.

For some, it's worse than the potential for chronic illness and disability. 🤷

Toronto has two testing sites: Humber and Ashbridges Bay. Other municipalities across the province have them too (Peel, Halton, London, Kingston, Sudbury, Ottawa). The federal government collects all the data here: health-infobase.canada.ca/wastewater/

You're right. Ford gets no credit for this.
Wastewater monitoring dashboard – Canada.ca
This dashboard provides data about COVID-19, flu, RSV and mpox virus levels in wastewater.

The unwelcome visitor that never really left.

I'm so sick of it all too.

Unfortunately the orange area with the biggest peaks is Covid. Flu A is a purple colour. Covid is dominant; the others are barely visible. Click on the link to see the original larger version more clearly.

However, you are right: the flu & RSV are circulating and causing lots of misery. Stay well!

A drop in temperature moves more people to congregate indoors providing those viruses ample opportunity to thrive.

Would be nice if disease carrying ticks perished in our winters, but they're hardy little ... ticks.

Thanks friend!

Yikes. What a coincidence. Glad you're ok as well as protected. Who needs that lousy ol' appendix any way?
November 15, 2025 at 7:07 PM
I'm more concerned with the stress on our precious health. Infections + reinfections = 😱
November 15, 2025 at 7:03 PM
Are there no volunteers or city-run initiatives that provide data where you live? Data is sparse, but clever people have found sources and published it. That site is from @young.me using gov't data.

"One datum point" = the spike, but you're right. We are fortunate to have numbers for guidance.
November 15, 2025 at 4:43 PM
I read their post as "I stopped *not* getting the flu when I stopped getting the vaccine." Therefore they got the flu when not vaccinated. Playing with words?
November 15, 2025 at 3:56 PM
Our province went from many testing sites to a few. Some cities test & then the data is extrapolated for the entire province. Highly unreliable.

Two week old data means values could be much higher now. Or lower. Or the same. 🤷‍♀️

Sorry about your mess. Shutting down science has global implications.
November 15, 2025 at 3:53 PM
Sounds good to me.

Not everyone needs to suffer with a sore arm or more. You lucked out! (You still get all the protection if that's what you're asking.)
November 15, 2025 at 3:46 PM
It's a single data point (from 2 sites) but Peel Region (next door) also shows an increase. It's unfortunate the data is lagging by a couple of weeks. We'll be in the thick of it but won't realize until it's too late. Fingers crossed the next data point comes back down to something less troubling.

I've read that Azelastine nasal spray shows some promise. It's supposed to prevent Covid from latching on in the airways. It's not available where I live (Canada) but it is widely available over-the-counter in the US.

That's what they're saying. That's why other precautions are worthwhile too. 😷 💨

This is my favourite source. Thanks.

Very interesting. 🤔

Glad you got protection from some forms of the flu. They say it's going to be a bad flu season. I hope you feel better soon.
