Another hermit crab in a conch shell - this friend is the White Speckled Hermit Crab (Paguristes punticeps). I love how its striking blue eyes matches the hue of the water in the background.

No banana for scale but this giant #hermitcrab (Petrochirus diogenes) was huge. It's living in a conch shell covered in hydroids and algae. Did you know: hermit crabs are not true crabs! I still love them though.

I was entirely unaware of the existence of the West Indian Simnia (Cymbovula acicularis, a sea #snail) until our guide on San Salvador Island pointed one out. This one is my favorite color so of course I love this photo.

In the deep sea, every ecosystem is built on evolutionary and ecological patience. But here we are—rushing to destroy habitats before we even understand them. Spoiler alert: The abyss is not likely to bounce back in the span of human life.

When backscatter completely mars a photo I just pretend I took it in outer space.
Caribbean Reef Shark, San Salvador Island Bahamas. I think there are garden eels in the background.

Once a buddy pointed out the weird and wonderful arrow blenny (Lucayablennius zingaro), I kept my eye out, fought with getting a shot in focus, and ended up with this. Not the super-macro glamor shot I hoped for but I'll take it.
