Slightly on a tangent, but Durham Castle is held up by massive bracing for similar reasons. I'm sure it's not going to go sliding off the large rock into the river.

Woohooo! Congratulations!

It's a great source! If you have access to Jeremy Goldberg's medieval women sourcebook, there might also be something interesting in there. I flipped through it last week looking for something else and vaguely remember seeing something...

The BL Medieval Women exhibition had a good couple of items relating to prostitution, so might also be worth checking their blog to see if any have accessible translations/editions.

The Eleanor Rykener trial might be of interest? Especially since Eleanor seems to have moved back and forth between different occupations, including as an embroiderer (if I remember correctly).

I think you've got a bit lost in translation here? @matildaf.bsky.social was talking about UK brands where you can get small inexpensive cheering things, and you've named a chain that doesn't exist here. I love a good small pick-me-up and I'm glad that they can be found in a variety of places!

Seconded enthusiastically and adding my doctoral supervisor, Mark Ormrod, to the list.

I know Uniqlo will hem for free and do have shorter options as well.

The places I've done well at recently are Uniqlo, whose corduroy trousers are what I'm living in right now, and of all places, FatFace. I wandered into their shop on a whim and wandered out with nice new work trousers (admittedly office work trousers but still). My jeans are pretty much all Levis.

Oh- I'm so sorry that you and yours are having such a rough time with so much loss. I hope that amidst it all, you are able to remember good times with your uncle.

Without seeing the rest of the page, I'm not sure, but my first impression is H or maybe just possibly an N, if it's a particularly funky script. I doubt it's a D.

Will do!

If no-one else can get it this week, I can get it for you next week?

I'm so sorry for your loss and will be thinking of you and your family xx

I mean, have you had the IMC attempts at a medieval feast? Deeply depressing when you can't have all the nice post-Columbian Exchange foodstuffs.
