the christian nationalists try it at Cal Anderson Park Elisa Chavez Bitter, beatitude, bullets whiz through the promo, serpent apostolics in HD. We are all god’s army now, drill sergeant clapping on the 3 and the 1 as the mob raises their arms to– Dominion, duplicity, demesne. They pelt us with invisible rocks and jeer as the cops throw us down. (Did that happen in Jerusalem, once?) This season Christ comes not with love but brass bells. They bellow “unclean” and puppet his cross-bitten lips to say– Canticle, cauterize, charism. The worship warriors debrief in Oregon, manufacturing purpose. A young woman cries and I believe her. She says “marked,” she says “body of Christ.” A boy is called up to tell stories of knives only he can see– Martyring, mislaid, monopoly. We call no answer right because it doesn’t answer everything. They call no answer wrong within the playbox of the mind. Their church-pit is made of lava and they pray for the salvation of nothing. Heads I win, tails you are scattered, you demon, you dust, you– Precognition. Pickling. Pricked. Of course I have the power of prophecy; it’s called a rearview mirror. My god is still the god of phase change and pink hair dye, of punks in the park screaming gospel. At the feasting-table of right and wrong there are high places reserved for the cop-trodden, the chrysalists. When Christ died and rose again, was he the same Christ or was he trans– substantiated?
