In #Ukraine, people continue to flee or be evacuated from hostilities in frontline regions in the east. Since Jan, some 16,000 evacuees have received support in transit centres, 60% are people w/ low mobility.

... and this was why Anna made the difficult decision of fleeing Ukraine and the war. After a year she returned, but to hardship & challenges. UNHCR supported the family to get back on their feet.

The words are Natalia's. I met her in Kherson region where she is now back w/ her family after UNHCR supported them to repair their war-damaged house.

In #Ukraine, older people are often the last to leave their homes in frontline communities. Currently, they make up some 30% of people being evacuated from areas with active hostilities.

Last night, another horrible Russian aerial attack on Ukraine, this time on Dnipro in the east. At least 3 people were killed incl a child & 30 were injured. In addition, there is comprehensive damage to 10 multi-story buildings, private homes, an educational institution and other infrastructure.

Nadiia was in her bed in Zaporizhzhia, Ukraine, when a Russian missile hit directly in the neighborhood, injuring 50 people. By a miracle, she survived, but her home was severely impacted.

+52,000 displaced & war-affected people in #Ukraine have received cash assistance from UNHCR so far this year to help them cover their most urgent needs (while supporting the local economy). Many of them are evacuees from frontline areas.

A horrible Russian attack yesterday on the city center of Sumy in Ukraine. At least 34 people killed and +100 injured.

Unfortunately, we have seen an intensification of the attacks lately and pattern of large-scale attacks on city centres causing immense civilian casualties & so much destruction.

Localization is vital for UNHCRs humanitarian response, also here in Ukraine, but what does it actually entail? We work closely w/ dedicated & extremely skilled national NGOs (13 of our 14 partners are Ukrainian). And 84% of our procurement is done locally, supporting Ukraine's economy.

This is a playground in Kryvyi Rih, Ukraine. Friday, it was hit in a Russian missile attack, killing 20 people incl 9 children. New figures from the UN Human Rights office show that the civilian casualties in Ukraine surged last month w 164 killed & 910 injured, 71% higher than in March last year.
