And here's an Apple News link, for those of you who have access to Apple News but not NYMag.

(I pay for both, btw, so don't @ me.)

Maybe it's finally time to do an IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE takedown.

My position: It's a top-notch film, but also thoroughly cynical and depressing--even at the end.

Look for a package on Thursday.

This is great that you're taking care of your students. When my mom was a reading teacher, she always "adopted" a student to buy wishlist gifts. This was a project the teachers organized.

That will tip the scales, I think.

Interesting—thanks. So they don’t have the opportunity to keep ramping up the cringe (or keep refusing to recognize how much they’re getting in their own way).

They need one of those extra episodes with previous unseen footage. #MAFS

The other members have their limits, too, just not as bad. This is a group of mostly older folks (like, past retirement age).

I don't like gratuitous violence but am fine when it makes sense.

Do watch Alice. It’s great and totally approachable.

I saw 3 Women when it came out. Have never felt the slightest interest in a rewatch.

He mostly seemed happy to be out of Rhonda’s clutches!

There was a lot of sadness in that room. And we were reminded why women shouldn’t share pregnancy news outside of immediate family until after the first trimester.

Yes, I agree with you! It would have been helpful to have been warned ahead of time to check him out first.

Well if the trailer had given any real glimpse of what the movie would be like--and what his "humor" was like--I wouldn't have gone.

I've been to almost 100 movies in theaters so far this year (about a fifth of the movies I've seen this year), and this is one was the most memorably poor choice.
November 26, 2025 at 5:07 AM
That was me. Is my reaction not permitted somehow? That trailer didn't discourage me from seeing what was ultimately my least favorite movie this year.

I like plenty of filmmakers who are acquired tastes. Love Lanthimos, for instance. But I'm careful about recommending his films.

I went to see FRIENDSHIP because it was in my local theater and I like Paul Rudd.

I didn't realize I was supposed to be familiar with, and like, Tim Robinson ahead of time.

It made me feel dreadful. And reflecting back on it, there was nothing pleasant or hopeful or even interesting in it.

That reunion was really deflating. At least some of them grew from the experience.

Heavy on "some."

I'm only part-way through the reunion, so my mind may change about the others.

I think you made an excellent choice!
