He invents the perfect "savage" (Pearce) to justify the "regeneration" (Slotkin). The lie sanctions the violence.

The generalization sanitizes colonialism.

The American myth claims civilization is born from a violent, purifying act against the savage. Vance recasts cultural destruction as redemptive moral necessity. Violence is the point.
