I think I'm starting to hate renv.. I'm trying my best to NOT use posit package manager to troubleshoot an issue and my renv.lock keeps using it. I have a different mirror in options("repos") I've set options(renv.config.ppm.enabled = FALSE) so why does it keep using that mirror!? #rstats

Woah. This is wild. I'd never seen a piece of software explicitly discouraging installing through snap.

The state of software today. A modern phone cannot instantly load a couple of alarms.
This is not a clock app, this is a cock-up.

Nothing is more disappointing in tech today that the absolute clusterfuck that is transfering files between devices. This should be a solved problem in {current year}, but it's clear that the big companies don't want you to have any solution that doesn't involve your data going through their […]

The other day I was in a colleague's office and saw her get a cookie consent dialogue and press "accept all". I was shaken to the core.

One of the things we don't talk about enough is how to secure the peaceful transition of power in open source projects.

We've all seen BDFLs turn into mad kings.
There are innumerable projects which have collapsed when the founder left […]

I am on my way home to Toronto and the aurorae are absolutely phenomenal.

If you are anywhere in the northern half of the continent, get outside and look up! Or better still, put your camera on a 10 second exposure and point it up.

Considering whether to bike 1 hour or so to the beach for a chance to see the aurora in #melbourne. One of the rare cases in which it would've been convenient to own car.

I haven't yelled that many (overwhelmingly excited) swear words at the sky for a long time. WWOOOOOWWWWW. Reddest auroras I've ever seen!! Usually it takes a long time exposure/CCD camera to see red at all. This is BRIGHT!! You can actually see easily outside […]

Today in hired car news: very weird behaviour on the Toyota we took to the Mornington Peninsula. The car would detect speed limits from streetsigns. Strangely, it would both beep loudy if I ever went even 1 km/h over the limit and offer to press a button to set the cruise control to 5 km/h over […]
