The internal battery in my beloved Zojirushi IH rice cooker died. It can still cook rice, but the clock and the timer need to be reset each time I plug it in. I learned that the battery can't easily be replaced because it's soldered onto the circuit board. Unbelievable!

Happy New Year! My kids wanted me to enjoy this holiday by making a suggestion to spend it with them in Toronto with the Osechi from Omusubi Bar Suzume and the sushi and sashimi platter from Kingyo Fisherman’s Market. We were all impressed with Kingyo!

My breakfast is a bowl of sardine ochazuke. A bowl of rice with a can of sardines for Vitamin K, a ripped-up piece of umeboshi for anti-oxidant, some dried shredded konbu for iron, chopped scallion, and konbu dashi, a little bit of soy sauce and some boiled water for the broth.

My task for today is to do a research on izakaya menu so that I can translate some wood menu that got cut off in the page. At the moment, I'm whacking my brain on the one with just a single hiragana. What dish could have two hiragana and end with "ku?"

One thing I miss about living in Japan is the variety of fish to cook. I can't get my favorite fish like bonito and whiting here in the East Coast. It's been decades since I last had skin-on bonito sashimi or whiting tempura.

I wish the Presto kiosks are labelled more clearly for the GO trains and UP Express at the stations. I didn't realize I had tapped on the wrong kiosks and got $17 charged by mistake.

My workplace closed down with just a month notice. It wasn't a complete loss because it taught me HIPAA compliance in a short amount of time. At the moment, I'm grateful that I have my translation work to keep me afloat financially while looking for a new full-time job.

It was our last day to work with the director of the vp program, For the potluck lunch, his wife made us some Trinidadian dishes, including Caribbean-style creamed spinach, and he brought us caramel cheesecake. They were so good! I already miss working with him.

I have pet peeves with electronic bathroom fixtures.
1. I spend more time trying to get the faucets to work.
2. Auto flush won't wait for me.
3. Auto flush doesn't work half the time.
4. Many people fail to check the toilet auto flushing successfully.
5. Paper dispenser keeps spitting out the paper.

Another one I failed to take a photo of is the International Heist Menu at McDonald's. They have the Teriyaki Chicken Sandwich (Japan), Big Rosti (Germany), McPizza Bites (Italy), Biscoff McFlurry (Belgium), and 2 dipping sauces (UK/Australia). We went back for more Teriyaki Chicken Sandwich.
