Ariel Cohen has said ATC is good at this, but I don’t have a source.

Festa just getting over arm fatigue is the reason I think.

Investment in replication (both re-analysis of data and new experiments) address what peer review cannot. But being first is awarded far more reputation points by academia and the media.

Standards would be very good. That said, I wish I thought that peer review resolved more of the uncertainty than I do.

I think Ober does something similar (FF high and CH low; FF mid and SL out), but I looked into it and I worry that the mid FF are a bad trade off for extra swings on the SL.

How many normie leagues even use FAAB? So much talk about weekly FAAB budgets and I would guess most play in leagues with daily moves.

So sorry about all of this, Betsy.

Bido (A) and Lynn (B)?

Not saying you are wrong, necessarily, but as MLB has a two-way player definition that only Ohtani meets, it isn’t crazy to treat him as the only guy whose stats count in both roles.

I’d use this. Seems like the crux is the auction value. I’d love a tool to estimate that in a way that accounts for the stream of future value. I realize that is likely a lot more work.

The process of learning to read or putrefaction?
February 14, 2025 at 7:59 PM
Oh and it is harder than that, since I would not be surprised if the correlation between volume and quality innings has decreased over time, further limiting the ways you can pay for volume.
January 30, 2025 at 11:41 PM
I guess I want to see how the later picks look. But that won’t really answer the Q of if it is possible to pay for volume. Need to look at projections of IP and compare to actual, how that has changed over time, probably

Blue and red lines just a product of all SP pitching fewer innings? Is it even possible to find volume like in 2018/2019?
January 30, 2025 at 11:32 PM
It is a market. Observed price is not the same as valuation. This could be explained by strategic behavior to lock in value, which has become less effective over time. Valuation may not have changed at all.

Said this earlier today about a different graph, but can we please have some kind of reasonable comparison group on these? Like hitters would not be a perfect comparison, but if they show a similar pattern then let’s think about what means.
December 19, 2024 at 2:44 AM
Maybe… graphs like that should be required by law to have at least one reasonable comparison group. Not perfect, but do hitters show a similar trend in their IL stints? If so, it probably is not the velocity.
