There was only ever gonna be one band I could open with tonight in The Bowery, Belfast. Hardest part was choosing the song. #RIPRick

@stephenking.bsky.social thank you for so many brilliant hours reading your words as a teenager. Being in boarding school and the power cut when entering the crept in Salems lot will live with me forever but knowing you are the person you are is priceless- I wish I had better words to describe

Had heard #IDLES and thought they were decent, seen them live supporting LCD, thought they were powerful. Really listened to the albums while walking and dealing with shit, reckon they are the most vital band of modern times.

And tonight’s opener at The Deer’s Head Belfast is…..

Yesterday’s walk round beautiful Belfast was soundtracked by the amazing Herbaliser album Same as it never was. Great sounds on great grounds

Beautiful Belfast this morning, walk in accompanied by OMD’s classic Architecture and Morality

Back on my morning track south of Belfast this morning after the festive break. Beautiful scenes as always and beautiful sounds provided by Bon Iver

Finishing off the Deer’s Head in Belfast with this little beauty- a great last song of the year. Have a good one people

Out tonight in Belfast? You’ll find me at The Deers Head playing some alternative classics, tomorrow night I’m at The Belfast Bowery playing classic pop, disco and soul. Both sets will feature just enough seasonal sounds, request welcome, dancing encouraged - no admission fee

This morning’s meander into Belfast city centre was soundtracked by the latest from Fontaines DC -Romance. Another band who’d be I. The conversation about best Irish band of last 10 years
December 18, 2024 at 5:35 PM
It was definitely Belfast grey again today but all was good listening to Villagers, possibly the best Irish band of the last 10years, accompanied my morning meander with their Becoming a Jackal album. It was so good I listened to it again on the walk back out from town.

Good Morning Belfast. Music for this morning’s meander was John Grant’s The Art of the Lie. Emotionally atmospheric and brilliantly beautiful
December 16, 2024 at 10:16 AM
Are you out in Belfast tonight or tomorrow night and fancy hearing some decent tunes? Then you’ll be glad to hear I’m in The Deers Head both nights this weekend playing classic tunes with an alternative edge- think classic rock, soul, punk, ska, new wave, indie, etc. No cover charge

Not much to say about my morning meander today, the sky was Belfast grey and I was listening to Kid A
December 13, 2024 at 9:08 AM
My morning meander was enhanced by seeing this fitting tribute to Nora Greer who brightened up Belfast by introducing yarn bombing to the city alongside many other great things in darker times. Fitting that the soundtrack Nina Simone’s Little Girl Blue, 2 great ladies who made the world better
December 12, 2024 at 9:19 AM
Certainly more Grey Sky than Bluesky in Belfast but my marvellous morning meander was still great with soundtrack provided by Nils Frahm’s Paris album. It certainly is music for the mind, sounds for the soul

At the end of the storm there’s a golden sky.. As there was for morning walk round the southern outskirts of Belfast this morning. Soundtrack today was Plump DJs’ Eargasm, if I do enough walking I’ll not end up a plumper dj 🤞🏻

This could be fun in The Bowery Belfast- I’ll let you know how it works out
December 7, 2024 at 9:53 PM
Although I doubt Dylan’s Shelter from the Storm will feature on the set list tonight if you’re still up for a party tonight I’m playing some retro classics in The Bowery Belfast from 10pm

The walk into the office for this view over Belfast this morning was soundtracked by The Mighty Wha! Part of a group of post punk/new wave bands from Liverpool who laid the blueprint for what would become Indie in the 80s, often criminally overlooked.
