Kimchi and kraut-chi making today!

And I get to do the initial fermentation in our shed, as spring has sprung, and it's warm enough! Saving my long suffering family from the rather pungent aroma of fermentation!

A shave horse is a bench you sit astride and which clamps the green wood you are working, using a draw knife. I've not used one for some months, till yesterday. Tight trousers, or poor technique? Whatever reason today, I'm very aware of my... family jewels, so to speak! The beets seemed appropriate

One bucket of chopped and brined cabbage equals this much kimchi

I ate the last of my kimchi yesterday.

Felixstowe with my son and some friends today. Arcade. Slots. Fun!

KFC!

Shock, horror! Shut down!

We found Phoenix Fruit! Everything I needed to make a bucket of kimchi!

The universe said good boy Edward!

We found a functional KFC in Martlesham!

Watched by this beautiful creature whilst axing out roof battens on Friday at Orchard Barn. Come help us with the Suffolk Long house restoration.

Serious subject. I lost my Yorkshire pudding mojo. Flat. Awful. Shameful! It's back! Why? Who is the deity of light, crisp puffy Yorkshire puddings? Would a blood sacrifice help? And tonight... they accompany roast chicken! Heresy, some might say! But they're beautiful, none the less!

Slow Saturday morning. Carving at the kitchen table. Drinking tea. Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

Splitting a log is opening a time capsule. This sweet chestnut contained the remains of the sapling the tree grew from. Green woodworking can lead to philosophical musings on humanity, and what may be there deep within us all, perhaps waiting to emerge again. Hopefully, without the aid of an axe.

I spend a lot of time making shingles from sweet chestnut at www.orchardbarn.org.uk

Many shingles don't make the grade.

They're not wasted. We waste nothing! But they mostly go to keep us warm. Not this one!

A winters morning spent shingle making at Orchard Barn.

I love axing out shingles. Everything else floats out of my head. It's very important to give using an axe your full attention if you would like to retain your full compliment of fingers!

So little time to ponder the important questions!

A character from an Agatha Christie murder mystery?

Lady GreenMingle?

The collective noun for a group of environmentalists?

A 70's prog rock band?

"GreenMingle lead saxophonist and bassoon player, Derek 'One Marble' Coot"

"I am the king of the birds, the king, the king, mwa ha ha ha ha!"

It's not often you get to witness the origin story of a super villain!

That's my boy! So proud!

Pareidolia? Or is an orange tinged demonic figure a prophecy from the woods?
