Lots of these "unexplained" things have actually been explained but there are people who refuse to believe the explanation. Because it is not romantic or mystic or narrative enough for them.

In FInland there was a practive of "kesäkissa" - pet taken only for the summer holidays and then abandoned. Not acceptable.
