In her words: “Your strength gives me strength. Even my family when they see you care for them, when you support Palestinian pleas and reject injustice. It gives them strength and the will to go on living.” Amidst this genocide, there have been glimmers of beauty—especially the arrival of baby Mahmood last September—and hope (namely, all of you). Doaa’s family has not yet been able to leave Gaza. Israel shut down the border soon after the family decided to fundraise their escape. In the meantime, they have endured starvation, sickness, and bombardment, going for days at a time without finding any food. But for Doaa’s family, the hardest phase of the genocide may just be beginning. Until now, the family has been able to subsist in remaining buildings in Gaza City, moving from structure to structure as the bombing proceeds. Yet now, as famine grips Gaza’s populace, Israel’s latest military assault has finally displaced the family of seven, forcing them south.
