He is the brain, working in the shadows, maybe until now -- 'sunlight is the best disinfectant' -- and it's a good thing. Because to mobilize people, they need to better understand that what appear to be a whole bunch of random actions by this administration are all part of a plan. Yes, we know about Project 2025, and we'd heard Vought's name. But he, it, and what this is all about need to be shouted from the rooftops by Democratic and Independent contenders for office so people understand the absolutely insidious program, all threaded together, to undermine our democracy. Russell Vought. Tell, them, candidates -- out loud, spell it out, and demand that we, the electorate, take our democracy back.

The federal government, the Washington crowd and corporate media (based in Washington and New York) see the country in wholly partisan terms, Republican versus Democrat, Red versus Blue, old media versus social media, liberal versus conservative, right versus left, straight versus gay, and on and on. Charlie Kirk’s assassination (in Utah!) should remind us of the actual diversity of the nation, and of the cost of polarization that demonizes the other side. No one in Robinson’s group is cheering or justifying the murder in any of the messages I reviewed. They’re just struggling to understand what their friend did. But Washington has become obsessed with the Discord chat, convinced it’s some kind of headquarters for the murder and cauldron of radicalization and conspiracy. Today FBI Director Patel vowed to investigate “anyone and everyone in that Discord chat.”

The Desire for Violence Will Not Go Away While we may not get a spiral of violence from this event, simply because the evidence is too clear for the regime to change the facts, it is a sign of what they will do with everything that happens—until they get what they want, full dictatorship. We must not back down or censor ourselves based on threats or altered facts. We should never apologize for calling a fascist a fascist. It is moments like this where too many well-meaning people capitulate, or write op-eds whitewashing one of the most virulent propagandists in modern history as someone who “practiced politics the right way.” This is the fundamental error too many privileged liberals and Democrats make—that we are still engaged in “politics.” Charlie Kirk was engaged in a holy war against America, against the Constitution, against Black & brown people, against women, against LGBTQ+ people—and against everyone who didn’t look like him. You cannot only vote your way out of this scenario. The government has every intention of following through with its plans to dismantle the Democratic Party and democracy. We’re going to have to stand up, and put ourselves at risk, to be fearless in telling the truth no matter what they threaten us with. War is hell.
