Amy + 5 boys — the LORD has told you what is good, and this is what he requires of you: to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.

So many people have lost their fear of the Lord. When we mock, relentlessly judge & make jokes about people who are suffering so we can maintain our political take, we’ve forgotten there’s a God in the heavens who hears. Humility is recognizing we are all just one disaster from losing everything.

The fruit of Christian Nationalism and the Southern Baptist Convention. Using Jesus name to get power at any cost. Covering up sexual abuse is in the DNA.
Let’s keep this in mind, devout Christian Speaker Johnson tried to keep the house from releasing this report because he wanted Gaetz to be attorney general.

“This is not just classic patriarchy, but a reaction to its breakdown, doubling down on its worst aspects—raw power and domination without love… in the manosphere even actual love and sex become secondary to the act of power.”

Also ones who want the literal “whole world” when talking about the flood but not in John 3:16
Beware of Christians who literalize the words of Revelation about burning suns and seven-headed dragons, but spiritualize the words of Jesus about helping the poor, oppressed, and marginalized.

I wish this was the baseline and not revolutionary.
When people who visited my church would ask me “Do you allow women to teach?” (Normally after a woman had just taught)

I would respond “no, but we do empower them to.”

I don’t allow someone to teach. I merely recognize their giftedness and God’s call on their life.

If primary impacts of your Christianity are

-to keep women from teaching about Jesus

-keeping people from pointing out racism

-making queer folks avoid Jesus because of church hate

-making immigrants afraid

Is this actually just a political strategy to win elections?
December 3, 2024 at 12:51 PM
I was forced to concede this gradually in 2016 with the election and then abruptly in 2021 after watching fellow Christian’s react to a sexual assault allegation in my professional circle. I resigned and was challenged by people in my church for it. To this day I have no regrets of my choice.
It would appear there is no depth of depravity, immorality, corruption, dishonesty, criminality, and treachery that white Christians will not countenance, defend and excuse away, so long as the offender hates all the same people they do.

So much of contemporary American biblical exegesis is devoted to giving oneself permission to be an @$$hole.
So here’s the thing…even IF there wasn’t a parable *explicitly* undermining this narrow idea of neighbor, Jesus also said “love your enemies.” There’s simply no escaping the fact that Jesus calls us to radically expand our concepts of love and hospitality.

I think this accounts succinctly for the conspicuous rage-in-victory of so many Trumpistas. What they want, though they’ll never admit it, is the respect of civilized people, which they fuzzily imagined they could extract by main force.
