Absolutely loved Guillermo Del Toro's, @realgdt.bsky.social - magnificent Gothic grand guignol Frankenstein.
Oscar Isaac's hubristic Victor is gloriously loathsome. Jacob Elordi is a brilliant creature, soulful & tormented. Worth seeing on a big screen. The best version since Mel Brooks' classic.

I'm sure the gravy seals will step up to defend the US, as long as they get plenty of lunch breaks, naps and snacks.

I experienced the full implications of puberty all at once when Debbie made her first appearance on Top of the Pops. She also shut my Dad up, who regularly used to chunter on "call this music", etc. For some strange reason, he didn't have a word to say.

Picked up a copy of The Zoologist's Guide to the Galaxy by @arikkershenbaum.bsky.social ‬and I am really enjoying it. His speculations are carefully based on thorough science, showing how animal traits & behaviours arise through natural selection, which would also dictate evolution on other planets.

Saw 28 Years Later today. Superb film. Scary, tense and quite moving in parts, with some flashes of coal black comedy. The cast are uniformly excellent, especially Alfie Williams.
My only qualm, as someone who grew up there: the film's geography of NE England is quite literally all over the place😉

Today truly marks a triumph for Russian intelligence.
For a fairly modest outlay the KGB/FSB agents who recruited & handle Trump, & his circle have severely damaged the US economy, crippled US science, wrecked its global standing & brought it to the brink of civil war.

Really enjoying the new Garbage album "Let All That We Imagine Be the Light". The latest in a strong run of latter-day recordings. This is a highly experienced band at the height of their powers with one of the most potent and iconic frontwomen in the business.

Watched Maxxxine last night; wonderfully tense and gory slasher film. It also works extremely well as a mid-80s period piece - arguably the heyday of the video nasties, the film celebrates. Mia Goth is magnetic in the title role, and Kevin Bacon brings his sleazy creep "A" game.

Watched a DVD of "Prey" last night. It is a very good, character-focused action-adventure film, the best Predator film since the original. Amber Midthunder makes an excellent heroine, going from naive but eager wannabe hunter to smart and deadly opponent.

Listening to Miami, the Gun Club's second studio album, today. The Gun Club were one of the first bands to combine punk with country blues. Their first three albums, Fire of Love, Miami and The Las Vegas Story, are among my all-time favourite records.

Adrian is actually the "Face Man" for a hardworking team of portia spiders with advanced keyboard and literary skills. While I suspect that Seanan is simply superhuman.
