~Not the actual Electoral College~
Just an account dedicated to the academic promotion of the EC; recognizing that there are changes that could (and should) be made with the EC, but it should not be completely abolished.

The Electoral College is not perfect.

But.

We still need it today.
It is not outdated.
It is not obsolete.
It is not a hindrance to democracy.

"If "Did Not Vote" had been a presidential candidate, they would have beaten Donald Trump by 9.1 million votes, and they would have won 21 states, earning 265 electoral college votes."

Functionally, the electoral college bugaboo serves as a self-serving excuse for liberals to avoid facing up to bigger problems.
Liberals: The Electoral College Is Not Your Enemy
Democrats should stop scapegoating the system for their shrunken popular clout, and instead make the hard strategic shifts necessary to win it back.

There are real problems with the Electoral College.

But

We cannot just assume that moving to a popular vote will fix the problems we have with the election process.

A popular vote may cause more problems than it solves.

Amending the EC is safer for our republic than abandoning it all together.

That’s a ridiculous thing to say. Those are simply the votes it came down to, but that does not invalidate everyone else’s votes. That’s like saying if a popular election came down to a one vote margin, only that one vote counted, and no others.
229,766 voters in just 3 states actually decided the 2024 election.

The other 155,200,000 of us did not actually count.

Time to END the Electoral College.

A couple of things:
A. The rhetoric used here is both misleading and inaccurate.
B. Unless the bill is a proposed amendment, there’s not much this bill can do
C. With Democrats about to be in the minority in the Senate and House, this proposition is nothing less than a publicity stunt.

How has the Electoral College survived, despite being perennially unpopular?
Despite its substantial-sounding name, the Electoral College isn’t a permanent body: It’s more of a process. For decades, a majority of Americans have wanted it to be changed.

Checks and Balances.

There are horizontal checks at the federal level (separation of powers), and vertical checks with states (federalism).

The electoral college implements both of these checks.

The other branches don’t have a direct hand in the election, and states have specific roles/rights.
