Did you know Daniel Defoe visited Malton during his tour of Britain in the 1720s?

He narrates that ‘This Town is divided into two Parts, by the River, which are called Old and New Malton…The Town is well-built and inhabited, and has two well-supplied weekly Markets, which are held by Prescription;

Edward Simpson, more commonly known as Flint Jack, was an infamous Victorian forger. Born in Sleights near Whitby in 1815, Jack began to work for Whitby historian and geologist George Young when he was 14 and later worked with local archaeologist Dr Ripley.

Today is our 90th birthday! Malton Museum first opened its doors to the public on 10th January 1935. Then called the Roman Museum, it displayed finds from archaeological digs led by Dr J.L. Kirk and Philp Corder at Malton Fort. Langton Villa and Crambeck in the late 1920s and early 1930s.
