Hello! I’m Eleanore:

🌲 nature + wildlife photographer
🏔️ freelance journalist
🪴 NA archaeology student
🌻 reader and writer of queer SFF novels

I've got big plans for 2025 (including moving to BC) and I'd love to have you along for the ride!
I think knights are making a resurgence in wips and books bc so much of romantacy is lacking true YEARNING, so we’re reverting back to the classic love-each-but-can’t-say-it knight tropes to swing that pendulum back

I find it difficult to meet people on here, but I want more friends! If you like:

🌿 Nature photography
🌿 NA Archaeology
🌿 Relearning creativity and curiosity
🌿 Sunny forests
🌿 Environmentalism
🌿 Queer-friendly spaces

Let’s me friends! Tell me about yourself!

I just found out that I no longer qualify for FAFSA loans. Stressful bc I’m a month out from moving to Vancouver to get my degree.

🌿 In light of that, if anyone needs a content writer or freelance journalist, I’m looking for work and very available. I have four years of professional…1/2

I’m missing Vancouver Island wildlife so much <3

Also, I’m going to have a bunch of photos prints available this week!

It supports me going to school, moving, and pursuing my art, and I can’t wait until it’s live!

NEW — After putting all Institute of Museum & Library Services (IMLS) employees on administrative leave Monday, I'm told DOGE is canceling congressionally-appropriated grants to state libraries across the entire country. Libraries are getting notice that funding was canceled as of 4/1.

Here are my thoughts on the 7 books I've read so far in 2025!

Also if you see anywhere that says "Spring Read Wrap Up" instead of "Winter Reading Wrap Up", no you didn't, I definitely know how to proofread my own writing.

I really want to write low-stakes cozy fantasy stories but I keep running into the problem of feeling like I have no plot.

Is anyone able to recommend short cozy fantasy novels/stories? I think I need to expand my experience with the cozy fantasy genre and that might help

This is a gentle reminder that opening windows, standing in the sun, and spending time outside when available can be crucial for your mental health ☀️ welcome that spring air, it’s always a friend

If you're a writer with a substack, tell me about it! I especially love SFF and sapphic/queer writers, and want to support your work.

This is the time for self promo! Tell me about your substack, what you're writing, your favourite book–anything and everything is welcome!

Wildflower Heart, my substack about nature-focused SFF novels (among many other things) is live! It will have eco-fantasy book recs, writing discussions, bookish discussions, nature art, and more 💛

Sooo if I start a substack focused on nature, including nature facts, recommending and reading eco-fantasy novels (esp. w/ queer characters), would that be something people are into…?

Additionally: do you, as a reader, prefer to read blog posts or substack articles? Why or why not?

Blog post ideas I’ve had:

+ commitments to mediocrity
+ why soft female characters aren’t useless
+ what everyone gets wrong about Zutara

…do any of these sound like interesting reads to anyone?

I’m just absolutely blown away by Alice E. Harrow. If you’ve read Six Deaths of the Saint, please tell me what you thought of it. My partner won’t read it for a while and I’ve got no one to talk to about it 🥲

Alright authors and future authors, tell me about that one wild dream you have for your future work!

For me: I used to LOVE book boxes when I was 15-16 and even though I don’t get them anymore, it’s a quiet dream of mine that one of my books will be in Owlcrate or Fairyloot ✨

I asked for sapphic book recs last week and now I’m back to ask about queer cozy fantasy novels!

I think I would like writing cozy fantasy books, but I haven’t read the genre, so I don’t even know what that means.

Please recommend me your favorites so I can add them to my tbr!

So, has Fourth Wing ruined dragons in books for everyone or would a queer novel with dragons and a nature-based magic system be welcome...?

I’m seeing a lot of concern about publishing and queer books right now. I can’t emphasize this enough:

Write. Your. Queer. Books.

There will ALWAYS be readers who want/need them. Don’t lose hope.

Your stories are wanted. Your voice matters. Keep writing 🌈❤️
