This will easily bar people from traveling internationally. Ill will towards US Citizens, heightened security, and scrutiny at the US Border (see the debacle with the Venezuelan deportees) really raise the risk of even making the attempt. I fear that the LGBTQIA+ communities are caged in the US.

This, however, stops US Citizens as well, because the US is still considered a “safe” country, in spite of the reality that it is simply not. I also get the feeling that the trade war has poisoned the good will of people globally towards Americans as well.

I want to touch on this point in particular.

Canada has something called the “Safe Third Country Agreement,” which applies only to the US and Canada. It prevents US citizens from claiming amnesty. Period. It’s intent is to stop refugees from attempting to claim status in the US, then Canada.
