Weirdly, despite having suffered debilitating depression for most of my life, I still haven't felt compelled to shit on POC in my darker moments 🤔🤔

But it's not a normal "bad take" situation, that take basically never existed, it's rage bait manufactured by what's become a harassment mob, which this otherwise perfectly fine response unwittingly validates and fuels. That's why I just wanted to let him know, because I'm sure he'd object to that.

Yeah, that wasn't the best choice of words. It's a bit hard to explain what happened in this limited a space, but it's not a criticism or accusation, more trying to sum up how it fits into the surrounding circumstance. Which isn't at all his fault and no way of knowing if you didn't watch it unfold.

Sure, all for conversation, hence I figured pointing out and clearing up misunderstandings could have a place in it too, not least because people are using it as an excuse to harass her for her "dumb take" on fiction instead of engaging in good faith, which seems more like shutting down conversation

I saw people who took her post out of context tagging you, I figured that's how it reached you and why you thought she was talking about fiction—which, yes, would be silly. But she writes self-help books for moms and works with memoir and other nonfiction writers, which is a bit less silly, no?

You can go simpler, just 500g flour, 1 packet yeast, 325ml lukewarm water, 1tsp salt. Kneed (use oil for hands and surface to not change hydration), cover and let rise for 2h, done. You can add oil and an egg white to the dough too if you're feeling fancy, but not necessary for a decent result :)

Which was nice for celebrating love and helpful for getting to live in the same country, but don't know if I'd done that with a fellow citizen, the cost would've been too outrageous for no real benefit, I barely manage to put food on the table so it wouldn't have been high on my list of priorities

I guess it's mostly because of tradition today? Which is appealing but also very expensive, so hard to justify if there's no particularly needed benefits. Even getting married in South Africa where things cost a fraction of what I'd pay here, I had to spend several thousands that I don't really have

Seems like a good trend though. Don't know if that can be inferred from that, but I sure hope it means people are less likely to be hassled everywhere they go and can instead opt in when they want to be approached for romantic/sexual interest. It's neat we have the tools for giving that consent now.

I can't claim to really know how to read these things, but seems they tend to use roughly similar samples sizes of 4-5k, and looking around elsewhere, it seems less people are coupled up today than 70 years ago due to the desire to find the right partner (50% today vs 80% back in 1950)

Is there info on what that means in actual numbers? Like, did the number of people who meet out in the world significantly decrease or are there just that many more people meeting online that everything else now looks slim in comparison?

Anywho, I think my accompanying blog posts could use an update, which I've tried to do in time for its anniversary, but stress of the last months aside, it quickly became clear that all the nuance and complexity requires something more extensive than a blog post, I'll still have to figure that out.
