Madrid, PSG, Inter would have qualified under the old system and got a harder knockout game if they finished 2nd. Now they have playoffs against lesser teams. It’s actually easier. Dortmund wouldn’t have qualified at all, so it’s way easier. Group stage is now demonstrably easier.

I think you might be confused. The playoff is still part of the competition. They haven’t been knocked out. Sure it’s a little harder for them now, but finishing runner up in the old group stage also made things a little harder. Overall the jeopardy in the group is lower, therefore less interesting.

They’ve qualified for the knockout stages. Two thirds of the teams are still alive and kicking which is more than the old format. It gives the big teams an extra safety net. Why not just have the top 16 qualify for the knockouts? It would add more jeopardy

Real Madrid are struggling? They qualified easily. Months of a group stage where two thirds of the teams still qualify. The new format removes so much jeopardy.

Who is struggling in the new format? It makes things easier for those ‘certain teams’. If you want to start throwing around words like ‘corruption’, then that applies far more to this system. The big boys have engineered it to bring in more revenue while ensuring they’ll always get though the group.

The point was - what if you look it up and you still can’t do it? The game letting you skip it at that stage is just essentially another kind of difficulty option.Skipping one small section so that I can enjoy the rest of the game is not the same as watching the whole game be played for someone else

So in your mind, difficulty in games isn’t a thing? As long as you know the strategy, anyone should be able to do it? Presumably you’re also against difficulty settings then?

I was playing a game recently, about 5 or 6 hours in, when I hit a boss I just couldn’t beat. In the end I asked someone else to beat it for me. I would have had to drop the game, about 3/4 through. Having the game do it for me would have been a great option. What’s the issue?

The point is to help you get past a something you’re struggling with. No one is forcing you to use it. Accessibility is a good thing.

I don’t really like RPGs but I saw everyone saying the storytelling was so great. I gave up a couple of hours in because I couldn’t understand what people were going on about. The writing seemed so mediocre and the mechanics just undermined the story at every turn.

Why wouldn’t people with consoles want it? It has the convenience of a console and access to a wider library of games. Personally, as a console only gamer, it’s exactly what I want.

I’m a hypocrite because the GX4000 was the first console I had when I was little and I remember borrowing from a friend and enjoying Robocop IN SPITE OF it being rock hard and unfair. I’d probably find it unplayable today.

The words that stand out, multiple times, in the review itself are “annoying” and “frustrating”, so I still don’t think the score matches. But then review scores in all magazines were always a bit over generous back then, so it’s all good. Just teasing!
