Happy Earth Day, everyone! 🌎🌷🍄🌳🦢🌲 I just finished reading Sy Montgomery‘s THE SOUL OF AN OCTOPUS, and — wow. I am completely obsessed with both the book and octopuses. If you’re looking for a story of animal/human bonds or the wonders of the natural world, I can’t recommend it enough. 🐙

Lately, I’ve come to understand that cultivating joy is a survival strategy.

Having read Viktor Frankl’s Man’s Search for Meaning long ago, I’m not a newcomer to this concept. But even so, historically I have set aside the lesson in favor of the opposite course.

Brainstorming book titles is one of the most difficult parts of the writing process for me.

How do you find a handful of words—or only one—that sums up the heart of a 118,00-word story?

Every once in a while, I like to leave a copy of FORESTBORN in a Little Free Library. It feels a bit like making a wish — hoping the book ends up in the hands of someone who finds this story when they need it most. ✨

I’m a part time librarian and I just want to echo what I’ve seen other librarians say recently: there is a HUGE uptick in requests for social justice, climate justice, abolition, history, etc books and I just want to say nobody is giving up the fight. If anything people are fighting harder #library

Things that bring me joy: books, cats, writing, cozy cottage/enchanted castle vibes, forests, glens, wildlife, history, mountains, magic, myth. Potatoes. Traveling. When you and a friend get so tired, you can’t stop laughing at nothing. A sunny morning after days of rain. Telling stories. Empathy.
