At the same time, if you don't want to keep making the same fucking mistakes over and over it's probably good to do some reflection on issues or errors and try to address them.

I don't think they really understand that there's not a singular left per se. Pretty much in the same vote as I've voted for Democrats generally in any election as just a matter of knowing that Republicans will end up being far shittier on any number of issues.

Are the Squad being run out of the Democratic Party? Reading a lot of what is going on with Labour under UK looks quite bleak by comparison.
February 6, 2026 at 9:12 AM
But labor just looks like they were handed a victory and decided to commit seppuku.
February 6, 2026 at 7:51 AM
I feel like Labour in the UK is far worse than the Democratic party in the US. There are redeemable elected Democrats in the US but then there's Chuck Schumer and Jeffries.

Yeah, I think it's that even before Bruen, DC was shall issue based on legal challenges (Palmer vs District of Columbia) that pre-dated Bruen. It's not really that arduous of a process and main issue for someone out of state is likely reciprocity but can apply for a non-resident permit.

While prop 187 passed in 1994 it actually ended up galvanizing the latino voters in the state with latino registered voters growing from 1.4 million to 4 million and the latinos started voting at the same rate as white voters. Guess what happened?
February 4, 2026 at 6:41 PM
My reference to CA goes back to anti-immigrant sentiment in that state back in the 80s and 90s had a lot of anti-immigration rhetoric coming from Republicans culminating in proposition 187 which passed in 1994. There was a similar trend of engagement in the state from the latino population.

It's a lot more complicated for instance hispanic as a demographic category is kind of useless as it lumps a lot of people together who have distinct identities. Like Cubans in Florida are not like Dominicans in New York or Mexican Americans in the Southwest.
February 4, 2026 at 6:41 PM
but whites are no longer the majority in Tarrant and are only roughly 43% of the population at this point.
February 4, 2026 at 6:28 PM
I think, like a lot of suburban and exurban counties, demographically they'd been shifting for a couple of decades now. Tarrant is sort of heralded as a swing district in Texas but it's less reliably Republican than it was two decades ago. The white population is the largest demographically...
February 4, 2026 at 6:28 PM
I think there's been an issue as Democrats simply abandoned the state for decades. But I see a parallel with what happened in California in the 90s if the trend continues.
February 4, 2026 at 6:22 PM
Tarrant County is considered a bellweather as it's a DFW exurb/suburban county. Currently demographically it's 29.9% latino and has 2,000,000 people. The problem in Texas is that voter turn out among latino voters is much lower than white run out.
February 4, 2026 at 6:17 PM
DC, at this point, is a shall issue state so not a huge barrier for anyone to own or get a concealed carry permit. Main thing is just recipricocity with other states on concealed carry permits but people not from DC can apply for a non-resident permit and register their firearms.
February 2, 2026 at 11:17 PM
Wait, wasn't she also the one who said that they wouldn't prosecute people for gun charges in August? Also as someone who lives in DC and owns firearms I'd love her to try and prosecute me considering Heller vs. The District of Columbia ruling.

I was wondering who stole the giant rolling paper out of my Cheech and Chong record.
February 2, 2026 at 8:56 PM
My attitude on this was I'd much rather battle milquetoast Democrats then a pervasive threat that is the current Republican party. You keep pushing the Overton window and cede no ground to the right.

I mean makes sense. He seemed pretty sour he wasn't cool enough to get into Berghain.

Everyone that has seen Strange Brew knows what to do.

I suspect they'll continue as they have with any of the cities they've targeted for 2-3 months since that seems to be the pattern on these deployments. Same pattern with LA, DC, Chicago and, now, Minneapolis. Bovino being sent back to El Centro is just shuffling chairs at the top.

It's also been in wide use in terms of hacker and computer/network security going back. So anyone online in the past couple of decades has probably heard the term at this point.
January 28, 2026 at 6:40 AM
Whatever the case may be it's a win to a certain degree and shows that the administration is in a bit of disarray at the moment as they realize that they've the majority on the immigration issue which would've been a strength a year ago.
January 28, 2026 at 6:02 AM
I think it's chair shifting for optics and some people being on the outs. Note that Trump was all in on this but now that the administration's support is cratering someone has to be blamed so Bovino and Noem are in the hot seat. Noem currently blaming Stephen Miller.
