As it's Black History Month in the UK, I’ve started My First Coup D’Etat by John Dramani Mahama. It’s insightful to explore Ghana’s story through its most recent President, before turning next to its first (Nkrumah). What books are you exploring this month?

The amount of times I've visited Baltimore through the eyes of @audacityofdespair.bsky.social needs to be studied.
And yes I've also read his books.

I'm genuinely wondering about the Hollyoaks x Brookie crossover as Mick & Jacqui live in the Village as Donnie & Diane. We also had a few episodes with Sinbad.
For the anniversary I'd have preferred Sienna to shower and said it was all a dream I used to read Word Up magazine.

Just finished book 17 of the year and I really liked it.
Boys Come First by @aaronkfoley I was supposed to read it years ago but I definitely read it at the right time. Loved all the characters and the way Detroit was depicted. 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈 #booksky

A Journey Through Storytelling: Roots and Legends – Book Review
Roots and Legends: Folktales from African Culture is a vibrant, enchanting blend of African and African American folklore that will captivate readers of all ages. As someone who grew up with Anansi’s clever escapades and the mischievous tales of Brer Rabbit, I was delighted to discover even more of the rich oral traditions that this collection offers. Each story begins with a thoughtful introduction, offering valuable cultural and historical context that enhances the reading experience. These introductions provide a bridge to understanding the roots of these timeless tales, allowing readers to fully appreciate the depth and significance of the stories.

I’m so happy. Homicide: Life on the Streets is finally being shown on Sky Atlantic
I have all episodes but they are now grainy so lovely to see it regraded.
This is the show that introduced the world to Det. John Munch and was written by David Simon among others before The Wire.

🚨 Black History Month Read! 🚨 Energy Never Dies by Ayana Contreras is a love letter to Black Chicago—its music, creativity & cultural legacy. But does it miss a beat by overlooking House Music? 🤔🏙️🎶

A Love Letter to Black Chicago: A Review of Energy Never Dies by Ayana Contreras – Book Review
Chicago. A city of rhythm, resilience, and undeniable influence in shaping Black culture. Yet, despite its significant contributions, it is often overshadowed by the artistic legacies of New York and Los Angeles. Energy Never Dies: Afro-Optimism and Creativity in Chicago by Ayana Contreras is a powerful rebuttal to this neglect—an evocative and insightful celebration of the city’s creative and cultural legacy.

🚨 New Book Review 🚨

I had no idea how harmful banana cultivation was—to the environment and farmers—until I read Banana Republic by Ben Brisbois. 🍌🌍 A deep dive into capitalism, racism & food politics.

Banana Republic: Unpeeling the Layers of Capitalism and Racism – Book Review
I went into Banana Republic by Ben Brisbois expecting an interesting take on science and the environment, but I wasn’t prepared for just how much I’d learn. This book introduced me to the history of South America in a way I’d never explored before. I had no idea how damaging banana cultivation was—not just to the environment, but to the farmers who are trapped in cycles of exploitation.

The TikTok ban is back in the spotlight—what would life without it mean for creators, small businesses, and communities? 🤔 Let’s talk about why banning TikTok could hurt creativity and innovation. #TikTok #SocialMedia #Creativity
Why Banning TikTok in the US Could Stifle Creativity and Innovation
The prospect of a ban appears to have seized front-page headlines as the next chapter in the ongoing debate on TikTok's fate in the US. For millions of creators, small business owners, and the average user, however, TikTok is much more than a social media application: it's a lifeline, a community, and an outlet for unparalleled creativity. One article that could be important to read is by Social Media Today: TikTok Appeals to Supreme Court Against Sell-Off Ban.

Yinka, Where is Your Huzband? by Lizzie Damilola Blackburn – Book Review
“Where is your husband?” is a question that rings familiar to many unmarried women across the African diaspora, especially after university. This common refrain is at the heart of Yinka, Where is Your Huzband? by Lizzie Damilola Blackburn, and is what initially drew me to this book - despite me being somewhat older than Yinka and still unmarried. From the very first page, I felt immersed in Yinka’s world.

Listening to the most recent episode of Drink Champs and they are giving my first hip hop love and his producer their flowers. Who was that love?
Calvin Broadus aka @snoopdoggydogg.bsky.social and Dr Dre
If it wasn't for these two I'd have had to listen to Britpop like my peers at school.
Salut!
