Now is an all-hands-on-deck moment to save our Public Lands. The Trump administration wants to sell off vast portions of our lands to private interests. When they are gone, they will be gone forever. Don’t allow your lands to vanish. When they go private you won’t have access anymore.

Spring in the Pacific NW is glorious! Wildflowers, migrating birds, and orcas grace our islands. It’s enough to offer reprieve from the assault on our democracy. When I need peace, I hop on my mountain bike and sail over rolling lonely single track through mossy balds and rain shadow forest.

Public Lands instill a deep sense of peace in me. I am so grateful that our government stewards had the foresight and determination to set aside open space for conservation and recreation. #supportpubliclands #utah #blm

For Valentine’s Day two short beaked dolphins were observed swimming in New York’s East River. 46 years ago on a circum-Manhattan sea kayak paddle, I was called over to the shore by a man. Reluctantly I paddled in to see what he wanted. He pointed behind me and there was a dolphin following me!

RIP Tom Robbins. Crafter of the most voluptuous and quirky characters in recent literature. You colored my world and invited me to see the injustices buried in our society.

Democracy takes courage! Our ancestors should not have died in vain defeating fascism. Democracy is a dynamic work in progress; it is a trajectory towards perfection. Support the voices who speak truth. Learn how to identify truth. Government is not the enemy. The people who are running it are.

Storms have moved into the Pacific Northwest bringing strong winds, much needed mountain snow, and grey skies. But as sunrise follows the night, calm will come back in due time.

Dam removal heals native and environmental injustices. The Elwha River, dammed for a century and freed in 2014, has helped legendary salmon runs to return and Lower Elwha Klallam treaty rights to be realized. The Elwha is once again wild and asserting its power.

Start with identifying your watershed. Know where your water comes from. Know where it goes. Water is life. Rivers are receiving person-hood rights. They need caring to thrive and support communities.

Pundits say America is becoming more nativist. I am a nativist! I believe the land holds sacred memory and is alive. It has sustained and nurtured us for many millennia. It is time to return that caring. I advocate for Public Land and conservation. I advocate for Native Rights. Transform Nativism!

I committed to pursue photography as a career in my mid 20s. I wanted to bring a photojournalist's perspective to the activities and work I did as a guide, the people I worked with, and the locations I found myself in. I have been drawn to wild places and indigenous cultures.

I go to nature and the outdoors to find my center. The wild biosphere is nurturing to my being; natural light is gentle on my soul in all its manifestations. I have devoted my life to minimalist travel and sharing with others: bicycling, hiking, kayaking. The fewer barriers the better!
