From The Writer's Almanac

Happy birthday Kurt Vonnegut Jr. During WWII, he was imprisoned in a slaughterhouse in Dresden. Vonnegut & his fellow prisoners only survived the bombing because they slept in a meat locker three stories below the ground. He published Slaughterhouse-Five (1969).

Not sure which is my favorite image of Speaker Pelosi: Standing up to Trump, Badass Agent Nancy, Clap back to Toddler Trump, or ripping up his State of the Union speech.

The GOP/MAGA folks seem deaf to what happened last night, but so is the DNC. The Party is not back, as Hakeem said. The voters are done with "business as usual". We're done with party politics and identity wars and 'nice'. We want results. Tell us what we're voting FOR. Not what we're voting AGAINST

I love it when I wake up in the morning after a Blue Wave has hit the country overnight. Makes me smile, and I haven’t done that first time in the morning in a long time.

40% of SNAP recipients are children. Two judges have said it is illegal for the POTUS to block $50 billion Congress has appropriated for emergency SNAP use. #FiscalCruelty

What have we come to when the POTUS has be be told by a judge that he has to feed hungry children and their families?

I'm so tempted to say, "Wake me up when it's over." That's not the way to win this battle, but it sure is tempting.

Happy B'day poet & author John Berryman, who wrote: “ . . . Shakespeare wrote four failures, plays that few have ever cared to produce & mostly scholars read. The reasons for his failure in each case were different, but at least he was always capable of failure, and it is pleasant to know this.”

Now that the initial horror has subsided, I am convinced that all the "renovations" (read: demolition/desecration) to the White House mean that he has absolutely no intention of leaving.

There were easily several thousand people lining Coastal Route One in Rehoboth Beach. We sang and cheered and danced. A few people in cars threw us the finger, but we "trumped" their one finger with our two fingers up in a peace sign. Love wins.

My protest sign for tomorrow’s NO KINGS Demonstration in Rehoboth Beach. This is an original block art piece by my dear friend and colleague, Mark Harris. After the demonstration, I’ll frame it and keep it for my grandkids. I hope they don't need it for a protest rally, but it's a good reminder.
