For some reason, I really enjoy this specific brand of joint metaphysical suffering. More and transcript in alt.

The soul's egg (the thing that keeps the souls of both the Oneiroi and their Nightmare in the same body while also determining who controls the physical body) binds Thanasis and Meletius together, it's tendrils tying their arms behind them and reaching through their bodies. This is Thanasis/Meletius. I'll explain more in the alt caption, but basically the left is how they look currently and the colors on the right are how they looked before. (You can imagine them having different clothes. What they are wearing now is because they were captured by demons.)

Meletius is an Oneiroi, a creature that can create dreams for others but also contends with a Nightmare in their own dreams, in this case Thanasis. Nightmares wish for nothing more than to override and contain the soul of the being they perceive as jailing them, so they try to fight and torture the Oneiroi when they fall asleep. Meletius was captured by demons to be used for weaving dream scenarios so they could cultivate magical power in dangerous scenarios without fear of death. With abuse awaiting them in wakefulness or sleep, they bargain with Thanasis and give up their body for being given a safe space in their own dream. Thanasis accepts readily, unknowingly putting themselves in a worse situation. (The process can't be undone either, so Thanasis gets to control Meletius's body and endure the same pleasures, pains and shames they escaped from.)
